Peterborough Grand Opening!

On Friday, August 25, Lifestyle Home Products cut the ribbon at their new 150,000 square foot factory and showroom in Peterborough, Ontario.

Although Lifestyle has been manufacturing at this location for the past three years, the company, formerly headquartered in Ajax, is now proud to serve Peterborough and the Kawarthas from its new factory-direct showroom.

In attendance at the event were local news media and dignitaries, including Otonabee Ward Councillors Lesley Parnell and Dan McWilliams, Brock Mission Executive Director Bill McNabb, and Peterborough Mayor Daryl Bennett. The Lifestyle team served up a barbecue lunch and guided tours of the factory.

In addition to employing 150 people at the Peterborough facility, Lifestyle Home Products proudly contributes to community causes. As part of the ribbon cutting ceremony, Lifestyle owners Bill and Keith Carroll presented the Brock Mission with a cheque for $2,000 to help with fundraising towards the mission’s new men’s shelter in Peterborough.

Operating since 1989, Lifestyle Home Products is Canada’s leading manufacture of custom high-efficiency (EnergyStar) windows, high-security doors, three- and four-season sunrooms, and lifetime metal roofing. Making A Grand Entrance

When photographing the Rapin’s home, the first order of business was to be invited to relax in their front sunroom space. The Rapins’ beautiful sunroom was photographed as part of Lifestyle Home Products’ 150th Great Canadian Sunroom Celebration. Below, Eckhart and Doris Rapin hold up Canada pillows.

When Doris and Eckhart Rapin thought about a social place to enjoy a cup of coffee, they envisioned sitting at the front of their property. The couple already had a sunroom enclosure on the back of their spacious home. However, their sunroom entry would create a new, welcoming space for visitors and friends.

“Situating a sunroom at the front creates a wonderful welcome to your home,” says Doris. Their new sunroom serves as a kind of elegant front porch protected from the elements at all times of the year. The Rapins are happy to invite friends or neighbours to step into their favorite room at any time of the day. “It’s so easy to sit here because it’s at the front of the house,” says Eckhart. Doris adds, “People like to use it as much as we do. It’s a wonderful place to enjoy a cup of coffee, have a glass of wine, or enjoy a conversation.”

Features of the Lifestyle sunroom include high performance Low E glass to reduce the sun’s heat gain in summer months and increase the R-value in winter months. The insulation value is suited for harsh Canadian climates. Lifestyle’s walls of glass create optimum panoramic views versus a conventional stick built renovation with spans of wall and smaller windows.

Doris and Eckhart saw Lifestyle Home Products at the National Home Show in Toronto. They were pleased to find that Canada’s leading sunroom manufacturer was based in Peterborough. “It was important to us that Lifestyle was based in the area with all parts Canadian-made in Peterborough. We like supporting the local economy.” She adds, “From start to finish it was a great process. We absolutely love our new sunroom by Lifestyle.”

The Great Canadian Sunroom

Thumbs Up on True Quality

CUSTOMER DAVE HOGAN (PICTURED LEFT) AND LIFESTYLE CO-OWNER KEITH CARROLL (RIGHT) ENJOY A FEW LAUGHS. AS PART OF LIFESTYLE’S 150TH SUMMER CELEBRATIONS, LIFESTYLE HOME PRODUCTS IS PHOTOGRAPHING SOME OF THEIR GREAT CANADIAN SUNROOMS. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SHARING THE RESULTS WITH YOU IN THE COMING MONTHS.

It all started with a Canada Day party. In the spirit of that theme, Elaine Hogan selected Canada flag pillows for their newly-built Lifestyle sunroom. That inspired Lifestyle Home Products, Canada’s leading sunroom manufacturer, to photograph the Hogans’ sunroom in honour of Canada’s sesquicentennial.

Dave and Elaine Hogan had Lifestyle Home Products create and install a custom-built sunroom that would complement their ranch style bungalow’s rural-facing backyard. Dave, a retired Toronto police officer, wanted a room that would take the place of a cottage setting close to nature.

When the couple hosted their Canada Day party last year, the sunroom became a focal point. It started to rain, and the sunroom offered welcome space directly off the back deck for many of their 30 guests.

According to Keith Carroll, co-owner of Lifestyle Home Products, there are many aspects that are truly Canadian about a Lifestyle sunroom. “All of our sunrooms are 100% Canadian-made in Peterborough,” says Keith. “We don’t use any offshore parts.”

Due to the use of high performance, Low-E glass and the company’s manufacturing and installation process, Lifestyle sunrooms offer optimum efficiency for the Canadian climate. A Lifestyle Grand Oasis Sunroom Addition opens up a wall to add a comfortable year-round indoor/outdoor room, while Lifestyle’s Oasis Plus Sunroom is a separate room that can be heated efficiently and enjoyed year-round.

“The Oasis Sunroom we created for Dave and Elaine is a three-season sunroom for spring, summer and fall,” says Keith. “It’s a great space that brings the outdoors in, lengthens our seasons, and provides fresh air that’s free of mosquitoes and bugs.”

The Hogans’ Lifestyle sunroom is the ideal place to sit and enjoy coffee or read. Dave has also installed a TV. “This sunroom is definitely the space we use most in the house,” Dave says. “Without a doubt, it has become our favourite room.”

3 Simple Home Improvements For Under $100

It seems everyone is applying for loans so that they can make improvements to their home. Some individuals will burn through thousands of dollars to improve the look if their home. Major improvements such as new flooring or a deck can require a significant amount of money. However, you don’t have to go to those measures to make improvements to your home. There are three key areas of your home that can make the most difference in the appearance of your home – the entrance, kitchen and bathroom. Just doing one of the ideas listed below can make a huge difference in your home. But why not do all three when it can be done for less than $100?

Entrance

The old saying that, “First impressions are usually the last”, can easily apply to the way people react when they enter your home. Has your welcome mat lost its welcome appeal? It’s time to spice up your entrance so what you hear are “oohs” and “ahhs” when people cross your threshold. If you have a spacious porch, a potted plant in a metal planter can create a pleasant atmosphere. Contemporary planters are about $10.

If you’re really adventurous, a coat of brightly-colored paint on your front door can create a splash. If you take on this challenge, it’s a good idea to make sure that the paint complements your home. For example, if your home is mostly red brick, a red door would make a dynamic look. A gallon of interior/exterior gloss enamel in red or any other bright color will set you back no more than $30-40.

Kitchen

When you look in your kitchen, what catches your eye first? Probably all those nifty cabinets that discreetly tuck away your dishes, right? After a number of years you might crave a different look. For starters, you might want to give them a good cleaning. This one step alone can make a difference. You would be surprised the amount of dust and grease that can accumulate on cabinets. Depending on the material that your cabinets are made of, simply removing the cabinets from their hinges and wiping them down with the damp cloth is sufficient. There are chemicals on the market, but you need to make sure that the chemicals are made for your cabinet material.

Once your cabinets are shining again, you can then add or replace knobs. Knobs range from simple unfinished versions that cost as little as $.50 to decorative insert pulls that costs around $3. With the average kitchen containing about 12 cabinets, your cost won’t go over $36.

Bathroom

Guest bathrooms are usually confined to a small space. Why not give this room a lift? You undoubtedly have a nice set of guest towels and matching accessories. These items are not necessarily cheap so unless you want to go over your $100 spending limit, you can leave those items as they are. What you can add are wallpaper trim, artwork, and color. There are numerous styles of wallpaper trim that you can choose a new look for your bathroom. You can go as conservative and as creative as you want. To complement the wallpaper trim, you can add artwork. You don’t have to go out and purchase expensive artwork. You can use your imagination to come up with some ideas. For example, a few seashells, colorful fabric, and an empty picture frame are all you need to become your own favorite artist.

If you have any leftover paint from your door, you can use this to paint a wall in your bathroom, as long as the color doesn’t clash with the other elements of your bathroom.
